refresher

If you haven’t dived for a while, don't worry. we have you covered! On your first day with us, one of our experienced crew will do a quick refresher with you to ensure you are feeling ready and comfortable to enjoy your trip with us! We will review some basic theory and then go through some of the basic skills to build your confidence. The refresher dive will be incorporated into your first dive with us, if you feel you could benefit from a refresher, please let the bookings team know when you book.

The safety of our divers has, and always will be main priority. This is true for each and everyone of our Scuba Junkie branches. We prefer to always keep our groups small for this very reason. Our group sizes are kept at 4 certified divers per dive guide. All of our dive professionals are trained through PADI and are exceptionally experienced with diving, conditions, and the area. We also prefer to keep our refresher divers separate from our fun divers to avoid you feeling pressured to rush through your skills session.

There are not enough hours in the day to be able to list all the amazing reasons to choose diving in the Komodo National Park! From sites where you can encounter the incredible mantas rays and stunning reefs teeming with turtles and reef fish - there is literally something for every diver to find joy in. Komodo is famous for it's currents, but our crew will always give thorough briefings and ensure all divers are fully comfortable with what to expect before entering the water. There are a healthy mix of strong current sites, as well as sheltered calm sites- perfect for plodding along and enjoying all that the site has to offer :)

On the boat ride to the dive site:
Whilst enjoying the stunning scenery that the Komodo National Park has to offer, your dive guide will start to go over the dive equipment you will be using for the duration of your trip, and how to get it fully set up ready for a dive. They will demonstrate this for you first to help refresher your memory, and will then allow you time to try yourself. They will then start briefing you on the skills that you will practice once underwater, allowing you plent yof time on land to ask any questions you may have. Before entering the dive site you will go over the correct pre-dive safety check and the appropriate entry technique. Once underwater, your guide will give a shirt demonstration of each skills first before giving you the opportunity to do it too. 

In the water: Your guide will go over each skill first, allowing you the chance to watch before giving it a go yourself. The skills that are covered will be how to clear and recover your regulator, how to clear your mask, what to do in an out of air situation, and some buoyancy skills to get you ready for the reefs! As soon as you are ready and comfortable with the skills, the guide will proceed on your dive as per normal- time to start enjoying the local marine life! 

After the dive: Your guide will talk you through how to take apart your dive gear properly, and how to clean your gear too. It's worthwhile making a note in your logbook how many weights you dived with (and what type of wetsuit you were wearing to help you remember for the next time you dive!) 

The refresher is included as part of your first dive of the day to have as little impact on your diving trip as possible - a refresh session is so crucial to start your diving holiday on the right foot! The skills will be conducted in a sheltered location and afterwards, all your focus can be on finding the best marine life out there!

Our recommendations are:

Open Water Divers with less than 50 dives: If it's been 6 months+ without diving
Any certification with less than 100 dives: If it's been 12 months+ without diving
Any certification with less than 300 dives: If it's been well over a year+ without diving
Any certification : If it's been 2+ years without diving
